EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSINGS:  Radio/TV announcements that “Waterford Public Schools are closed” mean:  1)  ALL regular classes and programs are cancelled.  Also, all scheduled after-school and evening programs are cancelled.  (However, if weather or other conditions permit, after-school and evening activities may be rescheduled for that day—such decisions will be announced on the radio stations listed above.)  School days cancelled because of bad weather or for other reasons will be made up at the end of the school year.  2) There will be no transportation to out-of-town schools.  (Grasso Tech, Norwich Tech, Ledyard Vo-Ag, and all special education transportation including out-of-town programs.)

LATE SCHOOL OPENINGS:  Radio/TV announcements that “Waterford Public Schools will open one hour (or 90 minutes) late” mean also that out-of-town transportation will operate one hour (or 90 minutes)  late.  Following a late opening (except for further emergencies), students will be dismissed at regular time.

Kindergarten schedules on a one-hour delay will be: AM-K, 9:40–11:25; and PM-K, 12:25–3:10. If school is delayed for more than one hour, there will be no morning kindergarten.  Afternoon kindergarten sessions will be held at their normal time.

When a one-hour delay is announced, the schedule is as follows:  elementary schools:  9:40 a.m. – 3:10 p.m.; middle school:  8:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; high school:  8:25 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

When a 90 minute delay is announced, the schedule is as follows:  elementary schools:  10:10 a.m. – 3:10 p.m.; middle school:  9:15 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.; high school:  8:55 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

EARLY DISMISSALS:  Radio/TV announcements will be “Waterford Public Schools will close early.  Afternoon kindergarten is cancelled” (if applicable).

When an early dismissal is announced, dismissal times are as follows:  morning Kindergarten will dismiss at 11:25 a.m.; elementary schools dismiss at 1:10 p.m.; middle school will dismiss at 12:30 p.m.; high school will dismiss at 11:55 p.m.   Only students in grades 1 through 5 will be served lunch on early dismissal days.

If you have questions about these procedures, your school principal will be pleased to answer them for you.

Sincerely,
