The student will understand that:

Southern Florida has a diverse Spanish-speaking population with a large Cuban element

Because of the Cuban influence, southern Florida is virtually bilingual

The seasons in the southern hemisphere (below the equator) are opposite those of the northern hemisphere (above the equator)

It is grammatically correct to phrase a statement using double negatives

How people in Spanish-speaking countries spend their time is centered around certain cultural activities

The weather in the tropics is almost always constant, so there are no weather reports except during the hurricane season – June to November
