Talented & Gifted Education
The elementary program has three components: (1) Weekly Pull-Out where identified students are pulled out of their regular classroom for two hours per week. They work in small groups with the TAG teacher. This time is used for critical and creative thinking activities. Students are given the opportunity to dive deeper into their personal interests and/or gifts. (2) Differentiated Instruction where TAG teachers work with classroom teachers to meet the needs of all learners in the classroom. They work to develop units that address the needs of the students. TAG teachers also offer support to classroom teachers in challenging the high achieving students. (3) Enrichment where TAG teachers offer enrichment projects through out the year primarily in the upper grades. TAG teachers develop the unit. The classroom teachers select children to participate based on their motivation, personal interests and learning styles. The unit lasts approximately 5 weeks. The children work on the project/unit for an hour a week.
The middle school program is designed to provide additional
intellectual challenges through theoretical and practical
experiences for TAG-identified students in grades 6, 7 and
8. The structure is composed of three components:
Classroom consultation/team teaching, pull-out in small groups,
and individual autonomous learning. The TAG curriculum offers
two units to each grade (6-8) at a time. Classes are
held twice in a six-day cycle during rotating core class times-for
approximately 55 minutes each. Students may also meet
individually with the TAG teacher pursue interest-based projects
utilizing an autonomous learning model. The goal of
this program is to provide enrolled students with a wide range
of enriching activities that foster leadership, creativity,
and logical thinking.
