About Cohanzie Elementary School

Welcome to Cohanzie Elementary School, where our primary goal is centered around the academic and personal growth of children.

The mission of Cohanzie Elementary School, an innovative community with a unique and diverse population, is to ensure that each child develops positive character attributes, achieves academic excellence and becomes a responsible member of the community by creating a safe, nurturing climate that embraces independence, scholarship, and integrity.

We are proud to be the home of approximately 390 children who come together each day to explore the world around us, to discover new ways of thinking, and to experience the excitement of learning. Cohanzie is fortunate to have a true partnership with our students and teachers, parents, and volunteers in the Waterford community. We value collaboration and stress the importance of cooperation. Our Parent Teacher Association is ever generous with their time and support, and we are indebted to them for sponsoring educational assemblies and family events that bring our school community together.

Located near Route 85 on Dayton Road in Waterford, Cohanzie Elementary School was built in 1923 with additions in 1956 and 1972. Today, we are a consolidated learning community, comprised of families and faculty from the former Quaker Hill Elementary School and the existing Cohanzie School. We have built our learning community in thoughtful and decisive ways so that all students can learn, and we are excited about the year of growth, opportunities, and adventure that lies ahead.

As you enter the lobby of our school, you will be greeted by our welcome plaque, “Through these doors pass the greatest children in the world.” At Cohanzie Elementary School, we acknowledge and are grateful for that gift every day!

Respectfully,
Glenda G. Dexter
