Principal's Message
Greetings from the principal's office at Oswegatchie School! Our elementary school is a professional learning community, comprised of students, staff, families and numerous volunteers. I am proud to say that Oswegatchie School is a special place where children grow and learn in an atmosphere of kindness and respect. Our days here are filled with numerous learning opportunities. In addition to our work on academic skills, physical education, cultural arts and technology, we constantly infuse character education and responsible citizenship into all that we do at Oswegatchie. Parents and staff work together to plan and implement innovative learning opportunities, such as Family Math Night, Enrichment Clusters, and Fun Fridays, to provide high interest activities that will meet each child's needs. We utilize the Multiple Intelligence theories to highlight how each child learns best, and plan instruction and activities with those interests and talents in mind. A school wide-project fair in the spring allows us to showcase the knowledge and the skills that each child has investigated using their preferred mode of learning. Our students are involved in numerous service learning projects throughout our school and the community, including visiting senior citizens and raising money for the hungry in our area. Students plan and organize many of these activities, and are invested in making a difference in the lives of others.
Parents are active and involved here at Oswegatchie School. Our home-school association, the Oswegatchie School Organization, provides vital support for field trips and assemblies, as well as numerous extracurricular activities, such as tennis, basketball and gymnastics, after-school programs, and a school play. These groups, run by parent volunteers, provide our children with a wealth of activities which complement the comprehensive education the students receive each day. In addition, the OSO supports many social events such as the back-to-school barbecue, the Festival of Friendship, and the annual spaghetti dinner. Working together with parents and families as partners in education, we are confident that we really can make a difference in the life of a child.
At Oswegatchie School, we believe that children are our greatest source of pride, and educating them is our greatest accomplishment. They certainly are our future, and working together, staff, families, and the community, we strive to provide the best educational opportunities possible. The success of our school is measured not only by the data on student achievement, but on the happy and well-adjusted children who are motivated to learn, and by the level of parent involvement in our school community. Here at Oswegatchie School, we are so fortunate to be part of a community that values and supports education.
