Oswegatchie - School Improvement Plan

Oswegatchie School
School Improvement Plan
2007 – 2008

Oswegatchie Elementary School, located in the center of Waterford on Boston Post Rd., presently has 291 students in grades kindergarten through five. Our diverse student body of twenty-two percent minority reflects the variety of cultures and ethnicities in our school community. To address a wide range of abilities in each classroom, the faculty and staff at Oswegatchie work together in collaborative groups to promote a professional learning community at our school. Teams of teachers review student data regularly, and plan and adjust their instruction based upon that information in order to meet the needs of all students. This concept also allows for provision of inclusive services to students needing special education and related service support in order to be successful in the general education classrooms. All students benefit from this approach because we are able to provide small group instruction, a variety of materials and resources, and learning activities that meet the needs of individual learning styles. In addition to academic support and enrichment, students and staff at Oswegatchie promote good character and citizenship, as well as many service-oriented projects in our school community. Parent involvement is integral to the success of our students, and we continually look for ways to increase academic collaboration between home and school, through events such as First Day, Math Night, and Family Science Night.
After reviewing current standardized and district-wide assessment information, the school district developed goals and objectives, outlined below, to foster continuous improvement for all students throughout the school system. From those district goals and objectives, the Oswegatchie School faculty developed goals and objectives focused on student achievement in all grade levels and all curricular areas. We will review and update progress toward those goals periodically throughout the school year.
