The Employment Process
Thank you for your interest in Waterford Public Schools, one of the premier school districts in Connecticut. For employment opportunities, please visit our AppliTrack website. All employment opportunities are posted online, applications are submitted online and all applications are reviewed online. While vacancies may appear at any time throughout the year, the peak of the hiring season begins in spring and continues until all positions are filled. Job postings are updated daily. All certified positions require Connecticut certification or eligibility for certification. See Certification Information for more details.
The Application Process:
Individuals seeking employment must submit a completed on-line application through the AppliTrack website by the advertised closing date. Once all requested materials are received on-line, you are considered a candidate for employment for the designated vacancy.
All applications are reviewed to determine the most suitable candidates for current vacancies. For certified positions, an interview team may range in size from two to eight members. All candidates are asked the same questions or are asked to participate in the same activities. Depending on the position, the initial interview may consist of multiple activities. The interview team will decide which candidates will continue as finalists in the process.
Demonstration Lesson and Final Interview:
All final candidates will be asked to teach a lesson. Details of the lesson will be discussed with the candidate at the time the lesson is scheduled. Members of the interview team will observe the demonstration lesson. The final step in the process will be an interview with the Superintendent of Schools or in his absence, the Assistant Superintendent of Schools.
Appointment to a Position:
Once the decision is made to offer a position to a candidate, all finalists are called and informed of their status. Once the candidate has accepted the offer, the Superintendent will issue an employment letter and a contract of employment for the candidate to sign and return. Placement on the salary schedule is based on verification of prior years of experience and receipt of official transcripts. Prior years of service are credited in accordance with the Waterford Federation of Classroom Teachers Contract.
State law requires that all new employees be fingerprinted before employment begins . The fee associated with fingerprinting covers the processing required by the State of Connecticut (Fingerprinting LEARN.) Waterford Board of Education Policy 4112.4 requires a physical examination for all full time certified employees. The District also requires employees to submit to a DCF Registry check.
Substitute Teachers and Substitute Paraprofessionals:
All employment opportunities for substitute teachers and substitute paraprofessionals are posted on our AppliTrack website and interested applicants must apply online. Waterford Public Schools uses AESOP (Automated Educational Substitute Operator) to notify substitutes of services needed in the District. This service utilizes both the phone and Internet to assist the substitute in locating jobs in the District.
