At the May 22, 2014 Board of Education Meeting, Mr. Christopher Discordia was appointed as the Principal for Quaker Hill Elementary School. Mr. Discordia will officially begin his new duties this summer. Mr. Discordia fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Dr. Glenda Dexter.
Mr. Discordia brings ten (10) years of professional experience in education to his new position. He holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Sacred Heart University in Griswold, and a Bachelor of Arts from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut. He is currently taking coursework toward his 6th year degree in Educational Leadership at Sacred Heart University in Griswold and has his (092) Administrative Credential.
Mr. Discordia is currently the Assistant Principal at Memorial Elementary School in East Hampton. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Chris is also actively involved in integrating technology into classrooms, as well as developing and presenting professional development opportunities for staff in the area of technology at beginning, intermediate and expert levels. In addition, Chris has supported the many special education programs at Memorial Elementary School through his leadership and close involvement with students and parents.
Prior to joining the East Hampton Public Schools, he served as the Director of Extended School Year Program for East Lyme Public Schools in 2012 and as an elementary classroom teacher in grades 3 and 4 at Niantic Center School in East Lyme since 2008. Chris taught at Lebanon Elementary School in Lebanon, Connecticut from 2005 to 2008 and began his career in 2004 as a teacher at Fields Memorial School in Bozrah.
Ms. Mindy Wilke, Principal of Memorial Elementary School, stated, “Mr. Discordia’s intelligence, passion and understanding of children infuse everything he does. He helped foster a community . . . where both teachers and students learn and thrive. (His) strong knowledge base in instruction and the integration of technology contributes to his continuing success. “
Search Committee Member and Great Neck Elementary Principal Pat Fedor added, “Quaker Hill Elementary School is a nurturing, enthusiastic school community with high achieving students, a dedicated staff and involved parents. Mr. Discordia is an enthusiastic educator who clearly demonstrated throughout the extensive hiring process that his primary focus is success for all students. He spoke often about his belief in a strong school community, working with all staff and parents and his passion for learning – a perfect fit for Quaker Hill.”
Mr. Discordia is excited to join the Quaker Hill school community and looks forward to bringing his passion and talent as an educational leader. Chris resides in East Lyme with his wife and two young daughters.
