At the December 15, 2016 Waterford Board of Education Meeting, Mr. Kirk Samuelson was appointed as the Assistant Principal for Waterford High School. Mr. Samuelson will officially begin this new role with Waterford on March 1, 2017. Mr. Samuelson will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Mr. Gene Ryan.
Mr. Samuelson brings twelve (12) years of professional experience in education to his new position. He holds a Sixth Year in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University, a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Quinnipiac University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Biology from Roger Williams University.
Mr. Samuelson is currently the K-12 Science Curriculum Leader for the Madison Public Schools, a role he assumed this school year. Prior to this role, he served successfully as the Science and Health Program Coordinator (Department Chair) at Daniel Hand High School in Madison. Mr. Samuelson taught for eight (8) years in the Guilford Public Schools as a high school science teacher. Prior to his career in education, he worked in restaurant management and operations.
Colleagues and supervisors in Madison remarked that Mr. Samuelson is a “true professional…sharp thinker…and genuinely cares about kids.” He is a “most accomplished teacher… ambitious…and of high character.” His principal remarked that “Kirk raises the level of our leadership team.” On behalf of the entire search committee, we congratulate Mr. Samuelson. We are confident he will be a great addition to the Waterford Public Schools’ team.
Mr. Samuelson is excited to join Waterford High School and the Waterford school community. He looks forward to bringing his passion and talent as an educational leader. Kirk resides in Madison with his wife and two children.
