Sachs selected as new Principal of CLMS

At the May 26, 2011 Board of Education Meeting, Mr. James M. Sachs was appointed as the Principal for the Clark Lane Middle School. Mr. Sachs will officially begin his new duties on July 5, 2011. Mr. Sachs fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Mr. Michael Lovetere.

 

Mr. Sachs brings more than twenty (20) years of professional experience in education and in business to his new position. He holds a 6th year degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University, a Master’s Degree in Teaching from Quinnipiac College and a Bachelor’s Degree in Government from Connecticut College. jim

 

Mr. Sachs is currently the Assistant Principal at Berlin High School, a position he has held since July 2008. Prior to assuming this leadership position, Mr. Sachs served as the Dean of Students at McGee Middle School from 2005-2008. At McGee Middle School, he interacted daily with parents and community members and was responsible for student discipline, evaluation of teachers’ instruction, as well as overseeing PPT, 504 and other meetings in the area of special education. Among his many responsibilities in his current position, Mr. Sachs led a school-wide effort to develop intervention programs for students with needs in the areas of literacy, math, behavior and emotional well-being. His strengths lie in the areas of curriculum, instruction, staff supervision, and relationship building with students and parents. Jim has chaired a number of district and school-based initiatives. He revamped the mentoring program and developed effective transition programs for middle school students entering grade 9.

 

Mr. Gary Brochu, President of the Board of Education in Berlin, stated that “Jim was an excellent middle school administrator and his high school experience will be an asset to Waterford. He is well-thought of by the Board and highly regarded by parents, students and staff. He is a quality person and educational leader.” Mr. David Erwin, Superintendent of Schools in Berlin, stated that “Jim is ready to lead a school and Waterford is receiving a person of the highest integrity, passionate about the work, and an individual who cares about students.”

 

In announcing the appointment, Superintendent Jerome Belair said “Jim Sachs’ experience as a passionate educational leader and his record of extraordinary commitment to students, staff and parents make him an excellent match for Clark Lane Middle School.” Mr. Sachs resides in Madison with his wife and family.
