At the August 18, 2022 Waterford Board of Education Special Meeting, Ms. Tomeka Howard was appointed as the Assistant Principal for Clark Lane Middle School. Ms. Howard will officially begin this new role with Waterford on August 23, 2022. Ms. Howard will fill the vacancy created by the transfer of Ms. Tracy Moore to Waterford High School.
Ms. Howard brings fifteen (15) years of professional experience in education. She holds a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Administration from Sacred Heart University, a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Saint Paul’s College in Virginia.
Ms. Howard currently serves as the District SRBI Coordinator-Instructional Specialist at Norwich Public Schools. Prior to this role, she served successfully as the Dean of Student Culture at Booker T. Washington Middle School in New Haven, CT and as an Instructional Coach and STEM-ELA Teacher at New London Public Schools.
Colleagues and supervisors remarked that Ms. Howard’s “style of management is respectful of individual students’ needs while maximizing achievement”. Her “ability to set a vision and monitor progress toward high and equitable outcomes for all students is what makes her an effective leader.” She is “committed to excellence and consistent modeling of professional learning” and “creating a positive culture amongst the school community has been a proven strength”.
